The Education Development Unit (EDU) provides a wide range of Learning and Teaching support and services for academic staff. Please contact an EDU staff member if you would like to talk further about the support and resources available to you.
In-class workshops on Learning and Teaching issues
EDU staff can, in conjunction with academic staff, offer ‘in-class’ workshops for your students on a number of learning and teaching issues. The most requested sessions centre on specific assessment items (such as report writing, writing a critical review, group work assessment), referencing/plagiarism and exam preparation. These sessions prove extremely effective as students are exposed to ‘generic’ academic study skills in the context of a ‘real’ course/assignment.
Learning and Teaching workshops and discussions
The EDU coordinates workshops, discussions and information sharing sessions on learning and teaching issues. Australian School of Business staff or external presenters speak on a range of relevant topics. Information about upcoming sessions are distributed to all staff via email. Please contact Prem Ramburuth if you would like to present a workshop or lead a discussion on learning and teaching issues and/or if you have ideas about topics you’d like discussed.
Individual support/advice
EDU Staff work closely with many individual academic staff in the Australian School of Business to provide feedback, advice and resources on learning and teaching issues. Most requested topics include: feedback on course outlines, development of assessment and marking criteria, development of learning outcomes, advice on diversity in the classroom, strategies for teaching large classes, strategies for group work assessment and on-line/WebCT support. Please contact EDU Staff if you would like to discuss any learning and teaching matters.
Policy development and implementation
The EDU participates in the formal committees of the Australian School of Business and University to provide input to the development and implementation of Learning and Teaching Policies. Current projects in this area include implementation of the UNSW Learning and Teaching Indicators and implementation of the CATEI Process.
Learning and Teaching resources
The EDU maintains a well stocked resource centre for staff on issues relating to learning and teaching. Click here for a list of available resources. The EDU also provides on-line resources, accessible through its website.
Support for grants, awards and academic promotion
The EDU can assist in the development and writing of learning and teaching grant/award applications as well as provide feedback on learning and teaching sections of promotion paperwork. In addition, EDU staff can assist in the development of teaching portfolios.
