The Industrial Relations Research Centre is an independent body, but one with strong links with the School of Organisation and Management. The Centre was established by Prof John Niland in 1980.

The aim of the Centre is to focus and stimulate research into industrial relations, human resource management and organisational studies and to facilitate publications of research results. The policy of the Centre is to promote the use of research results in industrial relations practice, human resource management and organisational studies and to sponsor projects in applied research - the results of which are designed to inform public debate and policy making.

Dr Lucy Taksa, is the Editor of the monograph series, UNSW Studies in Organisational Studies and Innovation; Dr Anne Junor is the editor of UNSW Studies in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations in Asia; and Prof Michael Quinlan is the editor of UNSW Studies in Industrial Relations.
